Experiences of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Diabetes in India in managing tsunami victims with diabetes
Authors
Abstract
The disastrous effects of the tsunami were felt widely along the East Coast of India. Governmental and non‐governmental organisations have mobilised aid in all forms, including medical help to mitigate the sufferings of the victims. The Diabetes Research Centre in Chennai—the WHO Collaborating Centre in India—has taken up delivery of immediate health care programmes for the socially underprivileged in undertaking routine diabetes management and also in the treatment of diabetic complications. The tsunami has adversely affected self‐care behaviour in several people with diabetes. Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
