Abstract

A 64‐year‐old man presented with tiredness, and a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes was made based on two raised random blood glucose values. He was commenced on gliclazide. Three months later, blood investigations revealed elevated liver enzymes (hepatitic pattern). Further investigations revealed no obvious cause for his abnormal liver function tests. Gliclazide was discontinued and a subsequent liver biopsy revealed features consistent with an acute hepatitis. His liver function tests returned to normal three months after discontinuation of gliclazide. Copyright © 2003 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
