Diabetic offspring: Still overweight regardless of White classification and gestational age
Authors
Abstract
Two hundred and seventy‐six consecutive pregnancies among 186 women with diabetes mellitus from 1980–90 were studied. Diabetic offspring were a mean of 652g (124%) overweight compared with our reference population regardless of maternal White classification or gestational age. Glycosylated haemoglobin values below 10 SD above the reference value in a nondiabetic population did not correlate to fetal macrosomia. HbA1c is therefore considered an insensitive predictor of fetal macrosomia.
