Abstract

A questionnaire was sent to schools, prisons and industries in the Trent region using addresses supplied by diabetes health visitors or specialist nurses to discover the level of diabetes education and whether it was thought to be adequate. Forty four (59%) of the 75 responded. Twenty four schools had received literature and all found it useful or adequate. However only 50% felt there was a need for educational facilities for children with diabetes within their school, but 56% thought there was a need for educational facilities for staff who deal with children with diabetes.
